Leap Day 02292016

TODAY only comes once in four years – so make today, February 29, 2016, extra special!

IF today is your birthday – the Happiest of Birthday Celebrations to You!!

Thinking about today – I realize I won’t be writing another Leap Day article for four years! I wonder what it will be like, in four years, when this day comes again. What will I have accomplished and contributed to myself, to my family, to my clients…in the world? This one gives me pause to think.

And yet, why should today be different from any other day? Why do I think today what my footprint will be in four years – and not consider the question: What is my footprint today, and every day? What if today was ‘it’! The last day I had to make that contribution or accomplishment? Would I do things differently?

Let today – Leap Day, 2016 – be THE day you begin and end each day with the question: What footprint did I leave on my family, my clients, my world today?

Let’s leap into the remainder of 2016 with a fresh look at what is right in front of us today, and how we can influence our tomorrows. Delight in the ‘extra’ day this year and make the most of the gift of life we have been given.

Happy Leap Day – Happy Life!

Cracked Pot 021516

This is a beautiful story that has been around for many years, yet it feels right to repost it today. This version is from India (there are many similar in circulation). Enjoy…

Once there was a water bearer in India whose job it was to carry water every day from a stream to his master’s house. He had two large pots, each hung on each end of a pole which he carried across his neck.

One of the pots had a crack in it, and while the other pot was perfect and always delivered a full portion of water at the end of the long walk from the stream to the master’s house, the cracked pot arrived only half full.

For a full two years this went on daily, with the bearer delivering only one and a half pots full of water in his master’s house. Of course, the perfect pot was proud of its accomplishments, perfect to the end for which it was made. But the poor cracked pot was ashamed of its own imperfection, and miserable that it was able to accomplish only half of what it had been made to do.

After two years of what it perceived to be a bitter failure, it spoke to the water bearer one day by the stream.
“I am ashamed of myself, and I want to apologize to you.”
“Why?” asked the bearer. “What are you ashamed of?”
“I have been able, for these past two years, to deliver only half my load because this crack in my side causes water to leak out all the way back to your master’s house. Because of my flaws you have to do all of this work, and you don’t get full value from your efforts,” the pot said.
“You should not feel that way.” the man said. “You are not a failure. You are a wonderful pot. And, you can prove it to yourself. As we return to the house today, look carefully alongside the path. When we get home, tell me what you saw.”
All the way home, the cracked pot paid attention to everything he saw. At home the man asked, “What did you see?”
“Flowers,” said the cracked pot. “I saw lots of flowers.”
“Yes you did. Aren’t they beautiful?”
“Yes,” said the pot. “But, once again, half the water I was carrying leaked out. I’m sorry.”
“There is no need to be sorry,” said the man. “Tell me, did you notice where the flowers were growing?”
“Well, yes,” he said, a little puzzled. “They were only on my side of the path, but not on the other side. Why is that?”
“For all these years,” the man said, “I have planted flower seeds on your side of the path. Every day as we walked back from the stream…”
“Oh!” the pot interrupted, shaking with excitement. “I watered the seeds through the crack in my side, and the seeds sprouted and the flowers bloomed, and…”
“Yes,” said the man, who was as excited as the pot. “Because you are the way you are, everyone in the village can decorate their homes with beautiful flowers.

“Each of us is a cracked pot in one way or another.” he said. “But there is still no limit to the wonder we can create.”

From that day on, the cracked pot knew just how wonderful it really was.

How many times do you feel like the ‘cracked pot’? Each of us has our own unique flaws. We are all ‘cracked pots’ in one way. But we should not be afraid of our flaws; we should acknowledge them. Know that in our weakness, we find our strength.

Sometimes, do you feel you are not a contribution? I encourage you to take another look – an ‘eyes wide open’ look around. I see how wonderful you really are. Each of us makes a contribution (like the cracked pot)! I thank you for yours!

Just 15 Minutes 02022016

Are you guilty of being there for everyone else and not being there for you? And then, settling for the leftovers – whatever time or energy is remaining to meet your needs? If this is familiar to you, you might hear yourself saying things like: I’m a people person; I like to be sure the kids (my spouse, my family, my co-workers…) are happy; I really don’t need anything; I just want to keep the peace; when my kids are out of school (the house, have a job, are settled…); I’m really good on 5 hours sleep; and so on. Sound familiar?

You see, here is the thing about this – – – you may be drowning and not even realize it until it’s nearly too late to come up for air! When this happens, what people sometimes experience is resentment, bitterness, anger, frustration, resignation. These feelings are held in until, at some point, they burst. Then, because this is ‘so not like you’ – you go around picking up the pieces, putting everything back the way it was. You step back into what is ‘familiar’, even though it does not meet YOUR needs. And the cycle continues.

What if – stay with me on this – what IF you shifted the focus of your attention to one thing – just one – that will keep you on course? On course to fulfilling a goal, a dream or desire. What would that be like? And – this one thing – it does not even need to be something big! What if, all you really want right now is to have 15 minutes to yourself each day to journal, or rewrite your recipes, or sort the tools in the garage or hit the snooze button just one time?

Right now – BREATHE!!!! All is well!

I invite you to take a moment now – as you are reading this – and look. Look as if looking in a mirror. Look deeply to yourself and ask this question: Would it be okay if life got easier? Yes? Yes! Are you willing? Yes? Yes! Breathe…

Now, what are you willing to do – because nothing happens until you act. And, that action is a small, sweet step of dropping the anchor and beginning your journey. Remember…just 15 minutes each day! That is what it takes to begin.

Happy sailing!

Woulda...Coulda...Shoulda... 011816

How many times have you said that? I would have done…I should have done…I could have done…

My experience is that we squander a good deal of energy in the past. We muse over our failings and how, if we had simply ‘done it differently’ we would be in a much better place today. We live in the place of ‘victim’. Oh, we may take some accountability for our woes, or not, yet we continue to fuss about that which is in the past. Do you find yourself making excuses in the present based on actions taken – or not taken – in your past? Take a look – truthfully, is it so? Have you had enough of that?

What would it be like, to have a clear vision of the ‘life you’ll love to live’ and the tools to redirect each thought and action in the present take you closer to making that vision your reality? Would that be okay with you?

What are your life’s intentions? What is it you want to be remembered for? Is it being a loving family member, a contributor to your community, financially successful, a creative artist, a well respected professional…what speaks to you as you look at your life’s journey?

What is getting in the way of fulfilling that vision? Truthfully – what is ‘it’ and what do you need to do differently NOW to move one-step closer to experiencing that vision in reality?

As your Coach, I will support you in your journey. I will share tools with you that will help define, with great clarity, what brings you the greatest joy and fulfillment. You will become clear about the obstacles holding you back and gain skills to help you move into all the tomorrows toward your dreams and goals.

Coaching is about what you are doing TODAY that will bring you great tomorrows. So, tell me, what are you doing, right now, at this very moment to create a beautiful tomorrow?

Let’s connect!

Cheers to the New Year 123115

As I bid a fond farewell to 2015, I’d like to let go of the fears, anxious moments, sorrow and disappointments. I know I had many of these, as I reflect on 2015 and yet, I feel so much stronger and wiser. Is it in spite of these or because of them? I am really not sure; nevertheless, I welcome the knowledge that I have moved through what has caused me regrets and have come into my ‘today’. Oh, I don’t mean to sound that 2015 was entirely a place without light – far from it! That, however, is what I choose to let go of and not carry with me into the New Year.

And to embrace all that awaits…oh that is what I look forward to!

What about you? Are you ready to let go of what may have been holding you back, that which may have been the obstacles to fulfilling your dreams and goals?

What if…what if you resolved today to allow those worries and that weight to take their rightful place – in the past? What would that be like? What will it be like when the only reference to the fears, anxious moments, sorrow and disappointments is with gratitude for how you have grown from them? How will this strength and wisdom serve you in your ‘today’ and the many, many tomorrows yet to come?

What if…what if you surround yourself with what tomorrow really looks like, for you, as you live the life you’ll love to live? Embrace it – snuggle up with it – invest in it!

And, what if you have someone who is fully invested in it with you – to stand by your side, supporting you and your dreams – what would that be like?

If this sounds like a great place to start your New Year, I would be honored if you would allow me the privilege of supporting you in your journey.

Here is to letting go and embracing what is yet to be! Cheers to the New Year!
